I Want Sisterlocks™ Extensions

How and should I start my Sisterlocks™ with extensions?
— Potential Client

Embracing a new hair journey and loving it is what it’s all about. The decision to start locs of any kind is a big deal. When starting Sisterlocks™ a common question has been, “Do you provide extensions?” Unfortunately, I do not provide extensions of any kind.

Here is why and what you should consider….

  • -All lock extensions are not made equally. Texture and color are important, but ensuring you have %100 human hair should be first.

-Synthetic blends can cause scalp irritation and in some cases hair loss.

-Poor quality extensions will require constant maintenance.

-Texture of extensions may or may not match natural hair.

  • -Depending on how extensions are attached you could face permanent follicle damage.

-Depending on the size and health of your natural locks, lock extensions can be too heavy. This additional weight could cause un-calculated damage to your roots.

  • -Sisterlocks™ is a natural hair care system.

-Sisterlocks™ does not involve adding hair of any kind.

-As a Sisterlocks™ Consultant, it goes against the brand standard to add extensions to this locking method.

Sisterlocks™ Wash Routine

Step 1: Products

Please use recommended Sisterlocks™ shampoo provided with your starter kit.  Do not put any creamy product on your Sisterlocks™. As we discussed during your consultation, products may cause Sisterlocks™ to slip.  If product is needed for scalp care, apply directly to the scalp, and not on the loc shaft.

Step 2: Braid & Band

Next, make sure you braid and band your babies!

First start by parting hair down the middle. On each side you should create 4 - 6 braids/plaits(away from the scalp).  Start the braid/plait about 2 inches from the scalp, leaving enough room for finger tips to slide through. Braid Sisterlocks™ down into a plait stopping right before the loose ends. Then bend ends upward and place a rubber band to secure the loose ends. (Rule of thumb, NEVER BRAID TO THE END)

Step 3: Wash

Finally, wash time!  When washing your Sisterlocks™ please use finger pads to massage scalp. DO NOT rub shaft of your Sisterlocks™. After shampooing, rinse as normal while squeezing excess soap and water from locz . NO CONDITIONER on your Sisterlocks™.

Step 4: Dry

We are done! You may leave your Sisterlocks™ braided while drying or take them down to let them air dry. Be careful when taking down braids/plaits making sure not to pull apart matted ends.

You may proceed to style (no products) your Sisterlocks™ to your liking.

Test Locz Aftercare

Here is an overview of how to wash and care for you test locz.

The care of your test locz helps determine the best locking pattern for your hair.  It also allows you to get a feel of your pending loc journey. Test locz also allows your consultant to see how you care for locz.

Things to Remember:

*Test locz must be washed twice before establishment/install, no less than 7 days apart (recommended to wash every 2 to 3 wks)

* You are responsible for reaching out to your consultant after 2 washes to access your test locz. This will take less than 15 mins.

* You are responsible for taking down ALL test locz before establishment. If not removed services will be postponed.

Wash Routine

Step 1: Braid & Band

Separate your test babies away from your loose hair.  Start the braid/plait about 2 to 3 inches from the scalp, making sure to leave enough room for finger tips to slide through. Braid locz down into a plait stopping right before the loose ends. Then bend ends upward and place a rubber band to secure the loose ends. (Rule of thumb, NEVER BRAID TO THE END)

Step 2: Wash

When washing locz please use finger pads to massage scalp. DO NOT rub shaft of Sisterlocks®. After shampooing, rinse as normal while squeezing excess soap and water from locz . NO CONDITIONER on locz.

I know, I know you have to care for the rest of your beautiful loose tresses.  Just lean to the side and try your best not to get conditioner on your locz.

Step 3: Dry

You may leave your locz braided while drying or take them down to let them air dry. Be careful when taking down braids/plaits making sure not to pull apart matted ends.

You may proceed to style your hair as normal.  BUT remember NO PRODUCTS on your locz!
