How much do your services cost?

Is there free parking?

Can I get an establishment/installation without a consultation?

- No, Consultations are required. All consultations come from our waitlist.

Do you take clients from out of state?

- Yes, I sure do! There are several hotels located nearby for your convenience.

What’s the best way to contact us?

- Inquiring about booking an appointment or an establishment/install, then the best way is to add yourself to our waitlist. You will be contacted as availability comes open.

Why am I being asked for a credit card number or deposit?

- Due to untimely cancellations and no shows. These things are costly for a business. Your card or deposit serves as security. Please review the Cancellation Policy to avoid unwanted charges.

What are Sisterlocks™?

Do you add extensions to Sisterlocks™?

- No, I don’t add extensions of any kind to natural hair. Nor do I advise the idea.

How old should a child be to get Sisterlocks™?

- I recommend a child be at least 7 years of age.

How long have you been doing Sisterlocks™?

- I have been practicing under the Sisterlocks™ brand since June 2018.

What are Interlocks?

Can Sisterlocks™ or Interlocks be taken out?

- Yes, all locs can be taken down. This process is very time consuming, but can be done. Melanin Locz DOES NOT provide loc take down.

Can I wear wigs over my locs?

- Yes you may. However, I do not advise wearing wigs on a consistent basis. Occasionally is fine as long as you steer clear of glue. A couple of years in we often look back in amazement at our journey. Enjoy the growth, enjoy the change.

Will I receive a Sisterlocks™ starter kit?

- Yes, on the last day of your establishment.

Do you teach self-retightening?

- Not at this time. You can find information here for self- retightening information.

How long does my hair have to be for install?

- At least 4 inches of natural hair. If you have relaxed ends at least 3 to 4 inches of natural hair at the scalp.

How long is the consultation?

- Consultations last 45 to 90 minutes.

How should I prepare my hair for Consultation / Installation?

- Hair needs to be freshly shampooed, NO conditioner, air dried stretched (braids or twists), with no products what so ever.

- Hair should be free of any artificial hair (braids, twist, updos, cornrows).

- Important note: Do not apply any products to the hair and do not blow dry.

Why do I have to take out my own test locs?

- You’re required to take down your own test locs to help you understand the commitment and what it takes to go through the process. Because Melanin Locz DOES NOT taken down locs.

How long is Establishment/ Installation?

- Many things determine the final time. For example hair length, hair density, the over all health of the hair and size of head.

- Sisterlocks™ establishments are scheduled for 2 to 3 days maximum.

- Interlocks installs are scheduled for 1 to 2 days maximum.

Can my hair be style after install?

- You have the option of a complimentary style after establishment / install, if time permits.

How often do I need a retie?

- Sisterlocks™ should be maintained every 4 to 5 weeks.

- Interlocks should be maintained every 6 to 8 weeks.

What happens if I don’t regularly maintain my Sisterlocks™?

- Irregular maintenance of your locz can cause breakage, hair thinning, and long term neglect could result in hair loss.

- Extended time between reties means longer time in the chair. That in return will cost more money.

Can I color my hair after install?

- It’s recommended that you color your hair prior to establishments/ installs. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait anywhere between 9 to 18 months or more depending upon your hair. This time is considered the “Settling in Phase”.

- Once approved by your consultant have an experienced license Cosmetologist / Colorist provide you color services.

When will my hair loc?

- Reaching “matured” stages varies from person to person. There are many factors that change the time line such as hair texture, staying away from certain products, staying on shampoo and retie schedules.

- Everybody’s journey is different.

If I trim my locs, will it unravel?

- Yes, if your locz are still in the baby phase you stand the risk of having a mini fro. Get approval from your consultant before getting a trim.

- Yes, just a little bit if your locz are matured and fully locd. The little bit that unraveled will naturally seal itself. If you see excessive unraveling pull away from heavy oils or any conditioning items.
